Book Review: Color Confidence by Tim Grey

As most everyone at IR is aware, successful color management is quite a task proven by the countless books, websites, and tutorials on the subject. Tim Grey’s book Color Confidence is devoted entirely to this topic and is a comprehensive guide that attempts cover every aspect of color management and with the goal of improving your digital output.

Color Confidence takes a unique approach as the reader follows allong through quite thorough tutorials regarding all devices concerned with color management from digital capture to profiling displays and even projectors for showing your work to larger groups. Whether you are a photographer that deals only in black and white or someone who works with both mediums, it is important to understand the theories, subtleties and nature of light as it effects your subject before you can even attempt to work with and process these images digitally. Tim Grey deals with all the necessary steps to be considered in digital capture as well as the nature of light and color and demonstrates how to make all this fit together in his final section dedicated to optimizing workflow.

About the Author. Tim Grey is widely known for his writing about the use of digital tools in photography. He regularly contributes articles to magazines including Outdoor Photographer, Digital Photo Pro, and PC Photo. Tim is editor of The Digital Image and publishes an almost-daily e-mail service, “Digital Darkroom Questions” (DDQ), where he answers questions from enthusiasts and pros. Tim also teaches several courses at the Lepp Institute of Digital Imaging. He is co-author of Real World Digital Photography, Second Edition.
