This is another take on my skin-tones problems.
How can we get digital images to take on the qualities of film images.
Specifically, the local contrast (tonal separation, accutance) while maintaining a long tonal scale. Most moves in PS (curves, additional layers in overlay mode, etc) do most of their pushing at the end of the scale, blocking shadows and blasting highlights, when we need them to work only in the middle (or at the local, not global, level). Sharpening helps, but it exagerates the edges (whether USM or layers with Hi-Pass filtration). Could I sharpen the tones, but keep the edges natural? Apply sharpening through an inverted edge mask?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
George
