AuthorSubject: Using 16-bit ProPhotoRGB   [Go to Bottom of Page]

Hi,

I am now shooting with a Canon 1Ds, using Adobe Camera RAW and Adobe RGB and Color Matrix 4 (in camera) as my workspaces. (If it makes a difference, I am using a Mac Powerbook 17 with OS 10.2.6, Photoshop 7.0 and the default profiles for the monitor are Adobe RGB and the CMM is Apple CMM)

My photostyle, if you like, is really throwing the colors around. (See my site - below - for samples if you wish.)

Is my best workflow - to avoid clipping and posterization etc - to use ACR with a profile '16-bit-per-channel ProPhotoRGB file' save as a 16 bit PSD file and do as much color manipulation as possible (curves etc) before going to 8 bit for filters, layers etc? (I have been using Adobe RGB.)

I understand there is a lot more info in 16-bit-per-channel ProPhotoRGB file than 16-bit-per-channel Adobe RGB? Is that the case? Does it make a difference?

Thanks!

Steven
