One you lose a drive, even if it's backed up, you're never the same again. I am that person.

So now, to add to my normal degree of paranoia, I'm rearranging my whole hard drive system to have primary drives, say, "LaCie #1", and then next to that, "LaCie#1-BU", for backup. I wish you could buy a HD where, right off the shelf, it was set up as mirrored. If it was a 60gig drive, it was automatically be 30/30 in partitions.

Inside of osX, is that system RAID the best/easiest/most-trustable way to do this?

The only bad thing about partitioning, it seems, is if the drives bites the dust, both partitions are lost anyway, so don't you need to keep backups on separate physical drives?

The other worrisome thing is remembering which work you've done on this primary drive, and then remembering if you've physically backed it up to the BU drive. That's what I like about RAID; if it's mirrored, isn't that one less thing to have to think about?

(I received my replacement LaCie 120gig yesterday via Fedex. LaCie replaced the hard drive itself. Thank goodness everything was backed up. It was a big job, and I'm still licensing new images from that shoot.)

Yes, this new digital workflow has a steep learning ramp.

Does anyone have any good success stories, in terms of your workflow, and your backup method? (Jeff doesn't count here; he's not normal...)
