Hi Folks,

I am looking for a holy grail perhaps but would like, once and for all, obtain an EASY SETUP for IDEAL Color Management.

Here's the deal; my setup:

1. Capturing (shooting) RAW files with a Canon 1Ds
2. Opening the files in Adobe Capture Raw then onto Photoshop 7.0.1 (Work in 16 bit as long as possible)
3. Running everything on OS 10.2.6 (a Powerbook 17) - save finals to TIFF (RGBs) for CD delivery to client.

Honestly, at the risk of sounding a huge dummy - I am perplexed. Tried dozens of variations.

SO ...

Should I set the camera's color matrix to '4' (similar to Adobe RGB 1998?)? Does it matter? What about Photoshop's settings? And the Mac.

Can any really clever digi-guru write back with YOUR ideal combination of settings for my setup.

Specifically:

a. What space should I set the camera to? (I don't think it matters with RAW, does it?)

b. What space should I use in ACR?

c. What settings should I then select in Photoshop's 'Color Settings' box? What should I set the 'Working Spaces' to? What should I set the 'Color Management Policies' to? How should I deal with 'Profile Mismatches'?

d. In OS 10.2.6, System Preferences> ColorSync (using the Canon 1Ds, Mac OS 10.2.6 and Photoshop 7 of course) What should be my 'Default Profiles'? What should the 'CMM' be set at?

(Of course, there is - strictly speaking - no 'right' way. But I want to go from hundreds of options to maybe two or three.)

Thank you very much.
