ImagePrint 6 Notes
Thursday September 2, 2004
by Mitch Alland

I am pleased to see that the new ImagePrint manual for v6 is a great improvement over earlier versions and is, in fact, excellent. The extensive Troubleshooting Guide section is a good addition. Also, as program installation has been simplified, I believe that most questions on IP problems that come up on online forums can now be answered by suggesting, in the best Unix tradition, that the user "look it up in the manual...." These notes are based on ImagePrint 6 build 1.08. If you are using a later build some of the issues and glitches discussed below may have been fixed, as ColorByte is aware of all of them.

Although I do all my work in Photoshop I like iPhoto's Book feature. I'm toying around with the idea of creating my own personal family albums this way and binding them myself. Maybe even small sample portfolios of my work.
There are two problems I need to tackle first though. On the one hand I need to figure out if and how iPhoto supports ICC Color Management. There are no references to Color Management inside the application nor any relevant settings in its Preferences. My best guess is that one needs to select ColorSync from within the Advanced Options of the printer driver (Epson 2100). I suppose the driver will then assume the RGB images to be in the RGB Default space I specify in the ColorSync pane of the OS X System Preferences. Am I right in this assumtion?
My other problem is with the book page dimentions. It seem like the book layout options are all intended for the 8x10 inch dimentions. That means the layout will shift slightly when printed onto the A4 size paper commonly availably in my neck of the woods. I guess there's no way of altering the book pages to the A4 dimentions?
