AuthorSubject: LaCie Photon18 profiling   [Go to Bottom of Page]

I've just purchased a LaCie Photon LCD monitor. I have used CRT's until now and have had great success using a spyder and Optical calibrating and profiling them. I've profiled quite a few laptop LCD's with OK result - nothing more, a side by side comparison have shown a reasonable color resemblance though. But now with that LaCie LCD it is impossible to get a half decent result, no matter what settings I choose I get a horrendous yellow cast in all colormanagement aware applications.
If this was my first attempt at profiling a monitor I would swear the spyder was broken, but it works fine when using it on a CRT again. The LaCie has the possibility to set the usual preset colortemperatures as well as Native. I've tried every combination on the monitor and in optical with respect to Native colortemp or a preset value, the whitepoint changes but the yellow cast is consistent. The cast is so strong as if adding 20% yellow with colorbalance in PS. Also I start to question weather to use calibrate, profile, calibrate & profile or use the button marked calibrate as previously there was some bugs related to this in Optical. Could someone, with a teaspoon, explain the different uses as I must have some fundamental misunderstanding with the priciples of calibrating and profiling LCD's. I get decent results compared to prints using my CRT's profile because then there is no yellow cast, that is how bad the profile from the LCD is.

I'm using w2k and the DVI for the LCD if that matters. strange thing is that the cast only effect the colormanagement aware apps as PS and C1 and Adobe Gamma is NOT present on my system.

Anyone, help...
