AuthorSubject: Mac OS 9 to OS X Pinting Issue   [Go to Bottom of Page]

Having exhausted all my available printed materials and doing an exhaustive web search, I came across this gem of a site. I hope someone here can steer me in the proper direction with a printing problem!

Hereís the situation. In anticipation of the arrival of the new G5 (and for purposes of a coherent workflow), I decided to focus my energies this week upon getting acceptable prints from my Epson 7600 using Mac OS X and Photoshop 7.

Iím printing on Epson Premium Semimatte Photo Paper at 2800 dpi, with no color adjustment, using Bill Atkinsonís Premium Semimatte Photo profiles (v.3). I am getting striking results in OS 9, however the OS X prints are disturbingly out of whack.

The OS X prints are suffering from a magenta cast and horizontal banding at 2800 dpi. Having tried many different combinations of settings, the pinkish tint and banding come up in almost identical places from proof to proof. Curiously, the same files print fine at lower resolution (1440).

My settings are as follows:

OS 9
Soft Proof Mode
Profile: 9600 PrmSemiMt PSM2 Std v3.icc
Intent: Perceptual
Driver
Proof Setup:
Source: Profile: 9600 PrmSemiMt PSM2 Std v3.icc
Space: same as source
2800 dpi
no color adjustment
microweave on
high speed off

OS X
Soft Proof Mode
Profile: 9600 PrmSemiMt PSM2 Std v3.icc
Intent: Perceptual
Black point on
Driver
Color Management
Source Space:
Proof:
Proof Setup: 9600 PrmSemiMt PSM2 Std v3.icc
Print Space: same as source
Black point on

Have Also Tried:
Driver
Source Space:
Document: Adobe RGB (1998)
Print Space:
Profile: 9600 PrmSemiMt PSM2 Std v3.icc
Intent: Perceptual
Black point on
No color adjustment
High speed off

In each instance, I have tried both perceptual and relative colorimetric, as well as black point on and off with similar results.

Also, the color settings in Photoshop are identical.

Any suggestions as to how to eliminate banding and overall poor performance greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
William Anderson
