I just did a search of the forums on this topic and ran into a few amazing threads about creating multi-disk arrays and using SANS. Garsh, guys! I'm just a humble amateur photographer. I could use some simple advice.

I am about to add a second internal hard drive to a dual 1 gig G4 to serve as primary storage for my image files (they will be backed up to DVDs) and as a scratch disk. The drive is a 7200 RPM ATA-133 160GB Western Digital with 8mb of cache. I am shooting primarily Canon 6MP SLRs now and mainly shoot RAW files. I also occas. scan 35mm film. I use PS 7 (soon to be 8?). The computer now has 1.25 GB of RAM.

When I partition the drive how big should I make the scratch disk? What factors go into the decision? I would also like to make a partition as an emergency OS X boot disk with rescue utilities. on it. How big should that partition be? What utility should I use to partition the drive?

Thanks!
