Iím at a beginner level in Photoshop (from a photo background dating back to Ď63).

I understand that with color you can do a quick-and-dirty conversion from color ->grayscale using Image->Mode->Grayscale. I understand you can get better quality with Hue/Saturation, by desaturating. Or with Channel Mixer (though Iím not clear on the steps on that) and with LAB. Thus, about 4 ways within Photoshop itself that Iíve heard of to do this.

Iím converting some TIFFs to grayscale for a Keynote slide show (800x600 pixels). Any recommendations on best way to convert (without buying a special plug-in just for this)?
