I have network of 3 Jaguar Macs, 1 WinXP Pro and 2 Win98se machines sharing a broadband connection via a D-Link wired/wireless router. Two of the three Macs connect using Airport cards and everything else is ethernet hard wired. File sharing works with all machines.

I would like to take a legacy G3 with Firewire running both 9.1 and 9.2 and add it to the mix but here's what holding me back.

-While I can get the OS 9 machine to connect to the internet, I've not been able to establish file sharing with any of the Wins or the Macs.

-My router is maxed out on wired ports

Without spending any money on either a new router or a file sharing program such as Dave I'm looking for another option. What I'd like to do is have a wired connection between one of the Airport connected Macs to the old G3 via either an Ethernet Crossover cable, or maybe a firewire connection.

I'm wondering if this would make the Airport connected Jaguar machine appear to have the G3's hard drives on it's system? If so then I could share/move files from the Jaguar machines to the legacy G3 and vice versa.

The old G3 is connected to an ancient scsi scanner and has some jumbo storage too. I'm only planning to need a connection to the other machines once or twice a week. I'd like to run Itunes on it too. An internet connection in not necessary for this machine.

Applecare can't seem to help on this topic and their knowledge base can't either. Will a Panther upgrade help or hurt?

Any suggestions?
