AuthorSubject: PK Sharpener settings   [Go to Bottom of Page]

I am doing digital capture with a Fuji Finepix S2, and using the Fuji software for conversion with sharpening turned off. I let the Fuji conversion software interpolate the file to 4256 X 2848 or roughly a 34mb 8 bit file (16 bit are 69mb). After using Photoshop CS in 16 bit mode for most of my image enhancements, I then use PK capture sharpener, mid res sharpen and smooth setting with narrow edge sharpen. (Most of my subject matter is landscape).

I also have a Kaidan panoramic head and shoot 5 or 6 frames that I am stitching together manually with Photoshop. (Thank the guys for the 16 bit workflow in CS!) These files once stitched and converted to 8 bit end up approximately 150mb.

1) What is the best PK Sharpener setting for a single frame (32mb - 8 bit)?

2) What is the best PK Sharpener setting for the stitched frames (150mb - 8 bit)?

3) Last question... If the sharpening looks too strong, what is the best way to fade the effect? Should I reduce the opacity of each of the contouring and smoothing layers? Or only reduce the top MRDC layer?

Thanks for the help,

Lonna Tucker
