AuthorSubject: What is the best picture laser printer?   [Go to Bottom of Page]
Frank Hoppen
Posted on Tue Dec 9, 2003 1:53 PM I posted this under the printer forum, but haven't got a rply yet. Maybe it fits here too?

I use and 2200 and a 1280 for my better prints but was in need for getting contact sheets /catalogs for submission to magazines of my files.

Those are usually 10 -15 pages with 20 images on each to 8 magazines.
The epsons where way too slow and expensive for that job, However the quailty was great.

I bought 3 months ago an Okidata 5100 and got a profile from IR (thanks guys, it helped a lot! However, for catalogs I do use Thumbsplus. There I can not apply a printer profile as in PS, nor let the OKI driver let me do it).

Unfortunately the image quality is still not good enough. The resolution and colors on the thumbnails are lacking the needed quality.

I saw prints from a HP 4600 and those were better. I thought of putting out an other $ 2000 for that one, but I am scared that there is a better, newer printer around. I would hate to spent that kind of money without the proper research just to find out that there would have been a better buy short after spending the money, of course.
I tried to find out more on the web, but could not find the needed information.

So, here my question to you bunch of the best:

What is the best quality color laser printer for photographs (if that is possible) under $ 2500?

Thanks for all your help!
