AuthorSubject: Question for Greg Gorman and others on Kodak Proback 645   [Go to Bottom of Page]

Greetings Greg and others:

I have an opportunity to purchase a Kodak Proback 645 from a photog switching to a Leaf Valeo 22. I would also purchase a Contax 645 AF. Is it worth the investment?
I presently shoot with a Canon 1Ds, which I love. I'm beginning to find its limits, however, in terms of dynamic range (creaminess of highlights, for example) and richness of color. Also dark tones, such as dark seamless, tend to block up and not transition as smoothly as I like.
The look is fantastic in available light, the limitations mostly come up in the austere world of portraiture with dark backgrounds and dramatic studio lighting.
I'm also looking for a system to shoot sqare format and not lose so much info as I do when shooting square with 1Ds.
Particularly in terms of skintone, detail, color richness and dynamic range, is it worth the investment?

Thanks Greg and all othes with experience of this setup, and particularly experience of both the 1Ds and the Proback/Contax on the job, for your answers.
