AuthorSubject: Artisan Color Temp/White Luminance Presets   [Go to Bottom of Page]

I am trying to determine which settings in my Artisan software best fit my reflective viewing environment. Unfortunately at this time, I do not have a dimmable viewing booth but rather a fixed setup with an overhead bank of 5000K lights reflected onto a wall that is painted neutral grey. The LUX of my viewing setup is around 700 - a little brighter than the ISO 3664:2000 P2 spec, but seems to work well. The color temp of the light hitting the wall is around 4350K. The monitors are shielded from the overhead lights by the reflective panel, and there are no other lights in the room (the LUX hitting my screens is around 80 - the best I can do). With my previous system, using OptiCal and a X-Rite DTP-92, I had calibrated to 5000K with a black luminance of .30 and a white luminance of 98-100. I know that is brighter than usually recommended, but it was what best fit the color and brightness of my viewing situation. I'm noticing with the Artisan, however, that my white luminance value is limited depending on what color temp I choose. The problem this is causing me is that in order to achieve a brightness close to my viewing environment I'm having to choose 7400K - way too blue! If I choose a more color-accurate setting (6500, 5400, 5000) I can't achieve a very good brightness and the screens look dingy. Is there any way to work around this "cap" feature of the white luminance/color temp? I can't reduce the ambient light around my screens in this environment any further, though I have a feeling that if I could it would help since it could increase the monitors' apparent brightness. Any ideas would be appreciated!
