AuthorSubject: MeasureTool and DTP41   [Go to Bottom of Page]

I've been trying to use the MeasureTool utility from the ProfileMaker 4.1.5 demo with my DTP41. It's the older model (beige) with a serial port, which I've been connecting to my G5 (running Panther) through a Keyspan USB adapter. All my other programs that use the DTP41 can see the instrument, but it won't show up in the pull-down under Instrument Configuration in MeasureTool. I've tried rebooting several times, clicking on other instruments and searching the port again, installing new Keyspan drivers, plugging the Keyspan into different USB ports, performing a hard reset on the DTP41, reinstalling the ProfileMaker demo, using Auto and Manual port selection, and changing port settings in the other modules - to no avail. I also tried installing MeasureTool on a Mac running Jaguar instead - same problem. I've downloaded the Windows version and installed it on a PC (Windows 2000) using the serial port to connect instead of the adapter. Still can't see any X-Rite instrument in the pull-down (also tried all the things I did on the Mac). I got a hold of Gretag and the technician couldn't understand why I didn't see any X-Rites in the pull-down either, so he put me on hold to ask someone else. Their answer was that they have stopped putting any non-gretag measuring instruments in the demo version, and any X-Rite instruments would only be available if I purchased a license key. Others I have asked, however, say this is not true. Can anyone confirm or deny that Gretag has started this policy with their demo version? Also, if it is true, does anyone know if I can purchase a license key for just the MeasureTool module, without buying the whole ProfileMaker package? I just want to be able to use this utility for measuring data, as the many color gurus out there recommend doing in their testing procedures. I have been able to use ColorLab (the separate downloadable utility from ProfileMaker's website) with my DTP41, but it doesn't have some of the features I'd like to use in MeasureTool and it crashes every time I try to compare data files. Please help!
