AuthorSubject: White Balance   [Go to Bottom of Page]

System Apple EMAC OSX 10.2.8+ PS CS+Eye one Display. Output to inkjet and Digital Lab. I also use Iedit professional to remove colour casts and the Expodisc for custom white balance creation for my Canon 10D.

Struggle is not the word for my fight with colorsync. Beaten is much closer!

I use Adobe1998 as working space and can convert to profile when outputting at my lab. I know I can use view to choose the profile of my lab to softproof my document. I run the Eyeone Display using the Easy option and various other options. I now have a selection of profiles ranging from very yellow to Blue.

This variety of white points has me beaten.

Most of my photography is close up portraiture including young people with delicate skin tones. Setting the white point is my last big hurdle before getting an epson 2200 and a printer profile from imagerevue.

The different profiles will give colour casts from yellow through to blue. Which one shows the truest image colour?

When making small changes in reds and yellows to get pleasing skin tones I need the profile to show me as close as possible what the final colour will be.

Please assume that once the image is ready for output I can look at it by softproofing it and finally convert to the profile of the output device. (The monitor profile and it's white balance are currently affecting the softproof option with the various colour casts mentioned above.)

My doubts are that I could have a slightly blue image and a yellowish monitor profile and noway of knowing when I had adjusted the image colour balance correctly.

Long winded. Yep. Just trying to explain where I'm at.

Thanks for your time.
Louis
