AuthorSubject: double-sided printing on 7600   [Go to Bottom of Page]

I am receiving mixed signals on the feasability of printing double-sided pages on an Epson 7600. As about 1/2 of my reason to purchase a new printer is riding on being able to do this, I'd appreciate any guidance you can give. I have been told that it will be "difficult" to line up an image front to back. So, for instance, if I have a 9x12 image that I am centering on an 11x17 sheet, will I be able to turn it over, feed it in and rely on the two images lining up? (I can bear a little variation--1/8" or so--which I can allow for in a bit of bleed, as these will usually be trimmed afterwards, but I couldn't manage if there would be significant shifting. (I am used to printing double-sided on some small printers and often have to set up files to allow for a position shift front to back...this is o.k. and easy). I guess I am mainly asking whether I would have a problem with RANDOM amounts of shifting.

The way I read the warnings I have been given is that I'd need to take care in the left to right positioning of the paper as I feed it in. It seems to me that I could do this by attaching a small stop to the right side of the feed, and aligning the paper to it.

Any suggestions? Reassurances?

I would really like to have the size capabilities of the 7600 for the other 1/2 of my business which is printing fine art prints and photos, but will possibly resign myself to waiting for 4000 if that would be a better choice for this task.

Perhaps also a bit of feedback about potential scuffing of first side during print of second side...

I would be printing these mainly on a relatively thin matte dual-sided paper for use in laminated books.

Thanks in advance for any help!
