AuthorSubject: 7600 magenta cast   [Go to Bottom of Page]

I'm having a little difficulty with a newly set up 7600 (ultrachrome w/photo black), and would appreciate the wisdom of those who have gone down this road ahead of me. Using Bill Atkinson's FullRangeLAB.tif file with his profile for Epson Premium Luster I get an amazingly good match to my monitor (Apple 23" cinema display) and also to a Lightjet print on Fuji Crystal Archive of the same file provided by Bill at a workshop in June.
However, when I print, using Bill's profile, a test target of my own that includes a grey scale, solid blocks of RGB and CMY, and sample images I get a distinct magenta cast. It is most obvious is the lighter end of the grey scale and in skin tones.
Bill's file is in LAB mode, mine is in RGB mode (working space Adobe RGB 1998). I printed Bill's file by Open>File>Page Setup (selecting 7600 sheet)>Print with Preview, where Bill's profile is selected under Print Space: Profile: and then on to the appropriate Print Settings and No Color Adjustment- this gives, as I said, a very satisfactory result. When I follow the same path with my RGB test file I get the magenta tinge.
I tried starting the printing process on my RGB file with Image>Mode>Convert to Profile(Bill's)>Page Setup and Print with Preview and on down the path without any improvement. I also tried, in desperation, Image>Mode>LAB color>then on out through Page Setup etcetera.
In Color Settings, conversion option, I have Adobe (ACE) with perceptual rendering intent. The printer drivers are the current Epson downloads (1.64).
Because Bill's file prints well I suspect that the equipment is fine and that the problem is a matter of operator error- Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks,
Jed Wormhoudt
