I just finished shooting the first part of an ad campaign using my Canon 10D, and the client will want the final images for everything from posters to print ads, as well as small table tent cards and brochures. The designer is working on a poster and needs one of the images delivered 300 ppi, with the longest side 25".

I just reprocessed one of the requested images from the original raw file, and using the PS CS upsampling option in Camera Raw I took my native file of 3072 x 2048 and upsampled it to the largest possible option at 6144 x 4096. This yields an image size of 20" (longest side) at 300ppi (very impressive, BTW!) So here are a couple of questions:

1) If I now need the final size for the poster to be 25", is my best bet to upsample using bicubic smoother at increments of say 5 - 10% increases? Or is there another optimal percentage to upres in a situation like this?

2) If I give the client this monster file and they then downsample it later when they make small things like the brochure and table tent cards, will this yield a trashy file?

I know its probably better to deliver them multiple files sized exactly to their specs, but I don't know if they have the time or interest to have me do that. Any thoughts on what the best course is here and how I can convince the client to then follow that path? This is the first time I've had to deliver anything this big for reproduction.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Best,

Paula Lerner
