What is the best suggested workflow to go from a big raw file (Nikon D100 or Digital Rebel) in a wide gamut space, to a small (47k, 640 x 480) jpeg in sRGB for use on the web?

My first goal is to produce prints in the 13 x 19 range, with which I am having some reasonable amount of success. Once I get a decent print, however, (working in PS CS) when I attempt to get an "equivalent" image for the web, I get various color shifts and a loss of saturation as though I'd moved sRGB into a wider gamut space, even though I think what I am attempting to do is just the opposite.
