I have an Epson 1270 running under Mac OS 10.3.3.

The past few weeks it has become unreliable and I am getting communication errors or freezes on it all the time. Since getting a 7600, I use the 1270 primarily for printing contact sheets for clients.

I have deleted the driver and reinstalled the driver; done a verify and repair permissions; tried different USB cables. The printer is connected directly into my G5. I have also checked to see if there are more recent drivers but there are not. I am using the Epson driver not the Gimp Drivers (all of the Gimps I deleted from my system).

Does anyone know if this behaviour is a Mac OS issue with the 1270? The printer was working fine up until a few weeks ago.

I am trying to determine if this is software or hardware based. The printer is about 4.5 years old so it's possible that it is hardware based.

Thanks,
