What should the OSX permissions be set to (for a folder or external HD without any system level materials enclosed)? For instance, if I click a folder on my desktop (for this example, an 'untitled folder' that I just created), then choose 'Get Info' and expand the 'Ownership & Permissions' section, what should these settings be set to?

I assume that the owner should be set to my user name...is there any problem if its set to 'system'? What about if its locked? Should it be, or not (not I assume)? Assuming that I am the only user of my system and that its a home based machine not networked to a bunch of office computers, what should the 'Group' settings be set to (what's ideal)? I often see admin, or unknown here? Is this OK? what about access for the groups permissions? Others?

Listen, I know that someone could easily respond to this post with a bunch of technical jargon, citing all sorts of situation specific factors that would result in this or that, but what I would really really like is a general answer...somethings clear and understandable for someone without a ton of system level knowledge. Thanks, and I look forward to your responses...
