AuthorSubject: Mac Viewing for Canon RAW   [Go to Bottom of Page]

Hello All,

For those Mac users out there who shoot in the Canon RAW format, what are the options (software) available for viewing these files? Specifically, I'm looking for an application to be used in the field that will enable me to review a day's work, however, I am not interested in actual RAW conversion at that time. This process will be performed later on my desktop using Capture One SE. So far, I've tried the following:

1. Canon FVU - actually not bad for quickly running through a folder of images via JPEG viewing mode.

2. New Canon EOS Viewer Utility - don't know what others are finding, but I've found the preview process to be rather lethargic; certainly not fast--not even close--for running through a large folder of images.

3. Capture One SE or Pro - Love the software (SE) on my PC, but think it's overkill for simply viewing RAW files in the field on, say, a 12" Powerbook.

That's all I know of at this time. Basically, I'm considering the purchase of a new 12" Powerbook mainly for using with a Better Light system; to be purchased late summer or early fall once Mike Collette releases his new USB2 unit. It would be nice, however, if I could also conveniently use this computer for review of JPEG family snaps (no problem for iPhoto) and RAW files from my Canon 10D.

Thank you for any insight provided.
